Edward Allen Jr
A veteran radio broadcaster of over 60 years, Ed Allen began his career as an announcer in 1930. An announcer, newscaster and emcee, Allen served stints with WIND, WGN and WMAQ radio in Chicago for 20 years, leaving in 1951 to build his own station, WDOR-AM in Sturgeon Bay. WDOR-FM came on the air in 1966. Allen served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Broadcasters in 1964-76, representing small market radio stations. He retired from his general manager’s duties in 1990 but continued to function as President of Door County Broadcasting Company, Inc. until he passed away on October 9, 1992.
