George Frechette
General Manager of WFHR-AM, Wisconsin Rapids, from 1940-63, who made perhaps his biggest contribution to the development of broadcasting in Wisconsin as a co-founder and later manager of the Wisconsin Network, a sports, news and information service for an original network of nine radio stations. He brought television to Central Wisconsin putting WSAU-TV, Wausau, on the air in 1954, serving as its general manager. He served as Vice President of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and as member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Broadcasters.
George Frechette passed away in 1963.
I came upon this website by accident…
My Dad died in 1963, 52 years ago. He was very much “business” and spent the majority of his time working to provide for his family. It’s exciting to see that, after all these years, his accomplishments have not been forgotten.
Special thanks go to Dad’s contemporaries, many of whom are no longer with us, for their kind words of recognition.
