Joseph Moen
Joe Moen’s 40 years in radio broadcasting exemplified the phrase “community broadcaster.” A Beloit native, Moen joined WBEL, Beloit, in 1948. Throughout his career, spent entirely at WBEL, he served as a sales representative, sales manager, station manager, general manager and from 1983 until his retirement in 1988, as President. Moen served the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association on nearly all of its major committees during his career and as Vice President in 1984-85. He combined his broadcast service with community service on numerous development, educational and cultural activities Boards and as fund raiser for a wide variety of community projects. He received numerous awards during his career, but his broadcast service and his community service to Beloit were given the ultimate recognition in 1988, when National Association of Broadcasters awarded WBEL its coveted Crystal Award, symbolic of excellence in community service.
