Norm Habeck
Norm Hebeck (1923-2010) was a dedicated presence in northern Wisconsin radio for nearly 60 years.
Based on Shawano, Norm, worked at WTCH, WOWN, WOTE, and WJMQ as a sales representative and the original host of the WTCH Breakfast Club.
Norm was also known for his community service. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Shawano Area Chamber of Commerce in 1989 and received a “Living Treasure Award” from Shawano County’s Aging Unit in 2009. He also served on the Shawano Park and Recreation Commission for 24 years and on many other committees, including senior citizens and St. James Lutheran Church groups.
Norm was particularly dedicated to veterans’ organizations and served as master of ceremonies for the annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day services for many years. He served two years in Europe during World War II.
The city of Shawano declared Feb. 1, 2007, Norm Habeck Day, in celebration of his more than 55 years of dedication to radio and his community.
Norm died in October 2010.
