1994 General Election for Governor – Thompson & Chvala
This debate between incumbent Governor Tommy Thompson, a Republican, and Chuck Chvala, a Democratic State Senator, was the first of only two the candidates participated in during the 1994 general election. It was held at the studios of WISN-TV in Milwaukee on September 30 and was carried live on 22 television stations and 29 radio stations throughout the state. The candidates differed on policy issues such as property taxes and the role of government, and the pressure was on the challenger to prove he could move into a statewide role.
