2014 General Election for Governor – Walker & Burke, First Debate

The first WBA Foundation 2014 gubernatorial debate between Governor Scott Walker and challenger Mary Burke was held on October 10th in the La Crosse/Eau Claire market. Jill Geisler, longtime Wisconsin news pro, WBA Hall of Fame member, author and Poynter Institute Senior Faculty, Leadership and Management served as the debate moderator. Panelists included Judy Clark, WEAU-TV-Eau Claire; Keith Edwards, WQOW/WXOW-TV-Eau Claire; Mike Thompson, WKBT-TV-La Crosse; and Shawn Johnson, Wisconsin Public Radio.

In the 1990s, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation became a unifying force for the broadcast of important political debates in Wisconsin.

The Foundation created an informal statewide network of radio and television stations to broadcast the gubernatorial election debate between Tommy Thompson and Tom Loftus in 1990, and since then has produced a statewide broadcast debate in nearly every election for Governor and U.S. Senator.

The Wisconsin Museum of Broadcasting is proud to exhibit all of these debates here – unedited and with historical context and election climate provided
