Bob Salm
Bob Salm spent 33 years at WHBY-AM in Appleton dedicating himself to radio and his community.
Bob started at WHBY in 1981 and in his time at the station did most of the jobs at the station both in front of and behind the microphone. He came into the station at all hours to handle severe weather warnings and always did his work with no fanfare and no expectations. For Bob, it’s never been about winning awards.
Bob is an active member of the community and volunteers with local organizations. He served the Appleton Police Department as McGruff the crime fighting dog.
Bob is described as a caring, gentle man who devoted his life to family and radio. As one of his peers said, Bob was, “put on this earth to do radio.”
Bob retired from WHBY in 2014.
Knew Bob in late 1960s. Have pictures of him from my military pre-induction period and shortly after discharge. Lost touch with him after last visit with him and his wife Kathy when he was living in Burlington, Wisconsin and hoping to get a job back home in the Appleton area. Have hoped to reconnect with him.
