Billie the Brownie

I so fondly remember Billy the Brownie. My wise mother would put us all in a room to sing Christmas songs. She told us if we sang long enough and loud enough, Billy the Brownie, or one of his helpers, would throw candy. Of course, after we had sung awhile she would open the door a crack and throw candy at the ceiling where it would then fall to the floor. We would hoot and holler and she would come in and ask what was going on. We would shout “Billy the Brownie was on our roof.” Mom would tell us to sing more since the brownies were in the neighborhood. In the meantime she had a couple of hours to bake, wrap presents, clean and prepare for the holidays. How smart was she?
