George Comte
Wisconsin broadcast pioneer whose radio and television career spanned 40 years, 1935-75, with WTMJ, Milwaukee. In his early years he hosted numerous public affairs and variety programs on WTMJ. From 1950-56 he served in several management capacities at WTMJ and in 1958 he was named general manager of WTMJ broadcast operations. He served as chairman and a director of the National Association of Broadcasters and was Co-Founder and President of the Association on Broadcasting Engineering Standards. In 1976 he received the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Distinguished Service Award.
George Comte passed away on May 24, 1980.
His nightly news broadcast was the standard source in Milwaukee during the forties and fifties. A crisp delivery of well edited facts and figures, he was not to be missed.
